About Us.
We exist because of a brutal truth: maternal mortality in the U.S. is a public health crisis, and Black women are dying at alarming rates from largely preventable causes.
National data shows that Black women are three to four times more likely to die due to childbirth-related complications than their white counterparts—even when controlling for education, income, and healthcare access.
This disparity is not due to genetics or poor choices.
It is the direct result of a society embedded with implicit bias, structural racism, and a lack of cultural alignment.
Research shows that providers are less likely to believe Black patients' accounts of pain or discomfort. Black women are less likely to be offered treatment options, less likely to be heard, and more likely to suffer from missed or delayed diagnoses.
