What is GRAMMS?

GRAMMS (Grandmothers Rallying Against Maternal Mortality Sisterhood) is a dedicated support program for women who have lost their daughters or daughters-in-law to pregnancy complications. The six-month initiative provides mental health support, educates on parenting and advocacy, and offers resources such as contemporary parenting strategies, therapeutic interventions, stress management workshops, mindfulness and wellness programs, and social development support for children. GRAMMS aims to create a community of empowered and resilient women who can advocate for better maternal care and support each other through their grief and new parenting roles

Monthly Virtual Sessions

The GRAMMS training program spans several months, covering various topics crucial for maternal health advocacy. Each month focuses on aspects such as introduction and onboarding, advocacy skills, maternal health awareness, community outreach, coping strategies, and action planning.

Support and Resources

Led by experienced professionals like advocates and healthcare experts, the program equips members with valuable knowledge and skills. Supplemental materials, including videos from renowned researchers and experts, provide deeper insights into maternal health and effective communication in healthcare.

Community Engagement

After completing the training, GRAMMS members are empowered to become active advocates for maternal health in their communities. They support others facing similar challenges, engage in grassroots initiatives, collaborate with policymakers, healthcare professionals, and community organizations, and raise awareness about maternal health issues.

The GRAMMS training program spans several months, covering various topics crucial for maternal health advocacy. Each month focuses on aspects such as introduction and onboarding, advocacy skills, maternal health awareness, community outreach, coping strategies, and action planning.

The monthly sessions are virtual and will last approximately 90 minutes. Each session will cover essential topics, including providing emotional support, contemporary parenting strategies, and child development insights. Participants will engage in discussions on maternal mortality among Black women, learn effective communication techniques, and gain insights from community voices. These sessions are designed to support families navigating their unique challenges and to build a nurturing community that fosters resilience and mutual support.

The training sessions are conducted by experienced and knowledgeable professionals, such as advocates, healthcare experts, and thought leaders.

 

Occasionally, GRAMMS members may receive supplemental materials, such as videos featuring renowned researchers and experts. These videos will offer an in-depth understanding of various aspects of maternal health, empathy, and communication in healthcare, serving as a valuable supplement to the training sessions.

GRAMMS will provide robust support to its members by offering comprehensive training, access to resources, and opportunities for networking and collaboration. Members receive valuable knowledge and skills and enjoy dedicated time with each other, fostering a sense of community and solidarity. Empowered by this support system, members engage with policymakers, healthcare professionals, community organizations, and fellow grandmothers, collectively working towards positive change in maternal health outcomes.
